If you’re wondering about our chess club membership and fees, joining Longbridge Chess Club is simple, affordable, and open to players of all ages and abilities.
We aim to keep membership costs as low as possible while helping the club continue to grow, improve, and provide a welcoming environment for everyone who attends.
Chess Club Membership and Fees

Annual membership for Longbridge Chess Club is:
£20 per year
Membership fees are usually collected around May each year.
These fees help support the general upkeep and running of the club, including:
- Chess boards and pieces
- Digital chess clocks
- Club equipment
- Promotional materials and flyers
- Website and club resources
- General venue and organisational costs
Our goal is to reinvest directly back into the club and continue building a strong local chess community in Longbridge and Birmingham.
Try The Club First, Free!
New players are welcome to attend their first few sessions completely free of charge before deciding whether to become a member.
This gives you the opportunity to:
- Meet the club
- Play some games
- Experience the atmosphere
- Speak with members
- See if the club is right for you
There is absolutely no pressure when visiting for the first few times, and we always encourage new players to simply come along and enjoy the evening.
Competitive League Chess & ECF Membership and Fees

Players who wish to represent Longbridge Chess Club in official league or rated competitive matches will also need membership with the English Chess Federation (ECF).
ECF membership is separate from club membership and is organised directly through the federation.
The cost is typically around:
Approximately £21 per year
depending on the level of membership selected. Juniors (players under 16) can get 1 year of ECF membership for free!
ECF membership helps cover:
- Official rating systems
- League registration
- National chess administration
- Tournament organisation
- Player grading and services
More information can be found on the official ECF website:
