Longbridge Chess Academy

The Longbridge Chess Academy is designed for anyone looking to learn and improve at chess in a friendly and supportive environment.

Whether you are:

  • completely new to chess,
  • returning to the game after many years,
  • a junior learning for the first time,
  • or an adult novice wanting to improve,

the Academy welcomes players of all ages and abilities.

Sessions focus on building confidence, understanding the fundamentals of chess, and helping players develop their game step by step.

What We Teach

Academy sessions include a mixture of:

  • Basic chess principles
  • Opening ideas and development
  • Tactical patterns and combinations
  • Endgame fundamentals
  • Checkmates and calculation exercises
  • Friendly practice games
  • Match preparation for improving players

The aim is to create a relaxed atmosphere where players can learn at their own pace while enjoying the game.

Junior and Beginner Friendly

The Academy places a strong emphasis on encouraging new players into chess, especially juniors and families discovering the game together.

No previous club experience is required, and complete beginners are always welcome.

Players can simply turn up, meet the team, and get involved.

More Than Just Lessons

The Academy is also an important part of the wider Longbridge Chess Club community.

Many Academy players go on to:

  • join club nights,
  • play friendly games,
  • represent Longbridge teams,
  • or simply enjoy chess socially in a relaxed setting.

The focus is always on enjoyment, improvement, and building confidence through chess.
