Longbridge Chess Club faced a tough challenge this week against a strong Kynoch side in a two-round Rapidplay match. Although the final scoreline did not quite go our way, there were still plenty of positives to take from the evening, especially some encouraging performances from newer players representing the club.

The first round started brightly for Longbridge, with two excellent wins helping the team secure a hard-fought 2–2 draw overall. Elliott Shurvinton and Mark Evans both picked up important victories against higher-rated opposition, giving the club an early boost and showing that Longbridge could compete well across the boards.

A special mention also goes to Katarzyna Kucharek and Rebecca Norton, who both made their first appearances for Longbridge Chess Club. Making a debut in competitive league chess is never easy, especially against experienced opponents, but both players approached their games positively and represented the club brilliantly throughout the evening. While the results did not fall their way this time, gaining match experience in these events is incredibly valuable, and both showed great determination at the board.

The second round proved much tougher, with Kynoch managing to take control across all four boards to secure a 4–0 result. Despite the difficult finish, the team continued to fight in every game and there were many competitive moments throughout the round.

Overall, the match provided valuable experience for the squad and highlighted the continued growth of the club. It was particularly encouraging to see new players stepping up and taking part in competitive fixtures, which is an important part of building the future strength of Longbridge Chess Club.

We look forward to the next match and continuing to improve together as a team.
